What’s new, Pussycat?

Tiger

Acrylic on canvas board, 50.5cm x 40cm. Painted for art group monthly challenge on theme of ‘Wildlife’ but a good excuse to make a point at the same time. I also created an image of a dragonfly (see in Miscellaneous) using watercolour, fine-liner and crayon which was fun.

The latest addition in the watercolours section is The Singing Cherry Pie. Don’t ask. It’s been in my head for months and I’m glad it’s finally out, looking pretty much how it’s meant to.

Right now, I am working on a new set of paintings illustrating lyrics from songs I totally love! The first two are nearly finished – two Kongos tracks – and I’ve got a couple of Iron Maiden songs lined up. You know how you just get certain images in your head when you hear awesome lyrics – it’s pretty much that rather than a depiction of the song itself. There are loads of other immensely inspiring songs which I would love to illustrate (take Queen’s ‘My Fairy King’ and one of my all-time favourites, ‘The March of the Black Queen’) but I fear my imagination outweighs my ability where a lot of them are concerned. Sigh.

I like a challenge so why not use the contact form to send up some ideas for songs you love because of their unique, powerful, evocative or just plain weird imagery?

  1. Great song suggestion! The Moody Blues have so many songs with amazing and evocative lyrics. As I’m now working on a series of paintings which illustrate lyrics from awesome songs, I will bear that in mind and I know there will be other great tracks by the Moodies that will inspire a painting or two..!
