Acrylic on stretched canvas. This was painted for the monthly art group challenge on the title theme and this is my first full painting done with a palette knife (except for the grasses and flowers in the foreground.) I thought I'd try something different and have only ever used a palette knife once before with no idea of what I was doing. I still had no idea what I was doing this time, either, but I persevered and found it was actually quite fun squidging the paint around on the canvas....

Always thought gin was a vile drink until I discovered it comes in lots of lovely fruity flavours meaning it doesn't actually taste like gin to a massive non-connoisseur like me. Combining my love of painting and alcohol, this is my drink in the Ship Inn, Exeter. Really enjoyed trying out this style of painting. Might do more. I thought people would probably associate this with spring and do pictures of flowers opening and the world coming to life. I don't like picking what seems to be the obvious choice, although to be honest, a dragon waking up was also pretty obvious to me but far more exciting. Acrylic on acrylic board. This is really entitled 'Moonrise over Amarynth' from The Soul Fishers which I am still writing but will totally finish this year. Don't think I've ever painted a landscape before and certainly not a night-time scene so it's ok for a first attempt.

When I first started working with acrylics, I read that you will get through more white than any other colour. 'Surely not!' I thought in my completely inexperienced ignorance. Having got through enough white paint in the last few years to cover the Moon, I recently splashed out on five tubes to top up my ailing collection of whites and having got through all of them in a matter of weeks, my working area is annoyingly lined with tubes of white paint standing upside-down or at silly angles...
